Champions ProfileColin Smith
I learnt to sail at Budworth Sailing Club, during the winter and spring and then in Abersoch during the summer holidays. I started out in Mirrors, tried Cadets and crewing Snipes, Fireflys and GPs, however I soon saw the light and moved on to the laser. I campaigned this for quite a long time, winning the Nationals and finishing 5th in the worlds, as well as three top ten finishes in the Europeans. I have previously sailed the RS400 and RS200 doing the circuit and Nationals. Having now joined and recently moved to Hayling it seemed the obvious choice to get in the RS100 as it appeared to be far more fun and less hard work then a Laser. I am very much enjoy the challenge of being a bit on the "light side" for a change, and am slowly mastering gybing when it is windy!
My Winning Tip
Make sure the nearest competition can't do the last day of the event - it takes the pressure away!
At Hayling when it is a northerly it's best to be lucky!
